Brief history of Great Britain

4000 BC - 1500 BC Man migrated to Britain whilst it was still joined to the rest of Europe by a land bridge.
1500 BC - 43 AD Britain was a country of small tribes living in hill fort. The Stone Age progressed to the Bronze Age and Iron Age. Extended families lived in hill forts that they could defend. They traded with Europe.
43 AD - 410 AD The Romans invaded Britain in force. Britain became largely unified.
410 AD - 1066 AD After the Romans left central rule disappeared. Angles and Saxons invaded from Europe and pushed the Celts to the fringes of Britain. Competing Anglo Saxon kingdoms and a Viking attacks contributed to the success of the Norman invasion in 1066.
1066 AD - 1154 AD The Normans consolidated their conquest.
1154 AD - 1485 AD The Middle Ages, who wants to be king?
1485 AD - 1603 AD Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and the Tudors.
1603 AD - 1660 AD The divine right of kings to rule, then chop off their heads.
1660 AD - 1715 AD Restoration and Revolution - the beginning of the Empire.
1715 AD - 1815 AD The German Georges rule Britain.
1600 AD - 1783 AD Britain in North America.
1815 AD - 1914 AD Peace and prosperity - the growth of the Empire.
